Jenny Bender taught 2nd grade and 7th grade literacy in New York City public schools, and also taught the teaching of writing to graduate students at Teachers College, Columbia. After leaving the classroom, she worked for several years as a staff developer with the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project. She currently trains literacy coaches and works with teachers in K–8 classrooms across the country, helping them acquire and hone the skills necessary to lead effective reading and writing workshops. Her first book, The Resourceful Writing Teacher: A Handbook of Essential Skills and Strategies, will be published through Heinemann this fall.
