Literacy Support Systems is an organization formed and staffed by seasoned consultants who have knowledge and experience in the New York City schools.

It provides professional development services in supporting and developing sound practices in all aspects of school reform, literacy curriculum, staff training, at-risk and gifted student supports. 

We service pre-kindergarten through high school professionals. We believe all children can learn given the appropriate supports.

We provide the following services which are customized to each school’s needs:  
·         Help develop and support literacy environments
·        Help create and service lab sites for on going training
·        In class literacy modeling, pre and post planning
·        Literacy workshops
·        Arts and literacy
·        Creating literacy through play in primary grades
·        On going principal and leadership support
·        Reading and Writing institutes
·        Assessment and evaluation
·        Planning and record keeping methods
·        On going assessment programs
·        Parent and community workshops
·        Support with the Quality Review
                                                                     
During this past school year we have supported the Staten Island Foundation grants for literacy and creating a Staten Island writing group.
We supported a Principal’s leadership group facilitated by Shelley Harwayne, the former Region 9 superintendent and founder of the Manhattan New School.
We created and supported teacher leadership groups in Staten Island and the Bronx.

We facilitated network leadership groups in Brooklyn.

We supported the Gifted and Talented conference with a group of our consultants.
