Carolyn Strom is an educational consultant and reading specialist based in New York City. She is also a PhD candidate in Literacy Education at NYU. Before starting her private practice, she spent ten years as a teacher, primarily in grades PreK-2, in inclusion settings. Carolyn works mainly with dyslexic students and advises schools in New York, New Jersey and California. She has also taught and supervised graduate students pursuing their literacy certification. Carolyn conducts research that examines reading and spelling instruction with students identified as "at risk" of reading failure. Her differentiated instructional practices are supported by the latest research in reading and spelling acquisition. Her areas of expertise are: phonemic awareness, phonics (both analytic and synthetic), word study, developmental spelling & teaching children with learning disabilities.
