Beverly Zimmerman currently serves as a university faculty member teaching undergraduate and graduate level literacy and assessment courses at Long Island University and St. John's University and as an education consultant. She served in a variety of urban school and district level positions. Beverly began her career as a classroom teacher (Community School District 29, Queens, New York) and later served as a reading teacher, Director of Reading/English Language Arts, and elementary school principal. Beverly Zimmerman served as staff developer, teacher trainer, Program Review Specialist for the Chancellor’s Office, New York City Department of Education, President, New York City Language Arts Educators Association and Visiting Professor at Long Island University. Her professional responsibilities included developing curriculum and literacy programs, organizing and conducting professional development for teachers, principals, assistant principals, district administrators, special education supervisors, teacher leaders and staff developers. She has designed, implemented and monitored literacy programs at elementary and secondary levels that lead to capacity building at school and district levels. Her company, Literacy Works, LLC, advocates ongoing professional growth for teachers and administrators. Beverly provides consulting service to schools and school districts in the New York metropolitan area. Her workshops at local and national conferences as well as professional development in the New York area have received favorable feedback.
