Carl Anderson is an internationally recognized author and literacy consultant. He has written several well-known Heinemann books on the teaching of writing, How’s It Going and Assessing Writers, as well as the Heinemann first Hand series, Strategic Writing Conferences Grades 3-6. As a consultant, Carl works in schools from Brooklyn to Indonesia, and does workshops and demonstration teaching for teachers, literacy coaches and principals.
The focus of Carl’s recent work is on helping teachers improve their teaching so that students can meet the new writing standards. He specializes in coaching teachers to improve their writing conferences, deepen their ability to assess their students as writers, and align their teaching to the new standards. Carl is working on a new book, Writing Workshop in the 21st Century, in which he discusses how workshop teaching can help students develop the key competencies they will need to become innovative, creative individuals who will thrive in the academic, work and civic worlds in which they will soon be joining.
