Judi Aronson
Judi Aronson began her career as a teacher of special needs students in a private school. Over the past 37 years, she has worked in a diverse range of roles from principal, to curriculum specialist to District 3 Superintendent. Judi has also worked in district offices, at the Central Board of Education, for the NYS Education Department and at the United Federation of Teachers, and most recently as a Network Leader for Empowerment Schools. Judi is currently on the faculty of Brooklyn College and teaches a course in Supervision and Administration.
As principal, Judi worked with her staff to organize whole faculty study groups that used inquiry to improve student achievement. She worked closely with the National School Reform and helped teachers use protocols to look at student work as a window into student thinking and understanding. She also worked with her faculty to develop portfolio assessment for each student at PS 261.
Judi has worked as a staff developer in a variety of K-12 settings, including public and private, in elementary, middle and high schools, in new small schools, and in alternative schools. Judi has a strong foundation in instruction with knowledge of current educational practices in all curriculum areas, and has worked with teachers in designing curriculum maps and using data to inform instruction. Judi has participated in the Teacher’s College Reading and Writing Project over 8 years, and has been trained at Project Zero at Harvard in using the Teaching for Understanding Framework to plan curriculum. Judi has also provided staff development programs to principals both locally and nationally in the areas of literacy, leadership, supervision and budgeting.
Judi has served as an educational consultant to numerous school districts all over the United States, including Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Palo Alto, among many others. She also served as a consultant to National Library Power.
She has authored numerous articles on education, including a book called “25 Super Math Spinner Games”.
