Education Consultant
New York, USA (2008-2015)
As a literacy consultant and coach, I have worked in a variety of elementary, middle and high schools in New York and New Jersey. The purpose of consultancy support is to promote and strengthen links between literacy and student engagement, responsibility and achievement, taking into account the diverse cultural, linguistic, social, and emotional needs of students.
My role ranged from working one-on-one with teachers in classrooms, through to facilitating a district wide Understanding by Design (UbD) curriculum writing process. I regularly designed and delivered professional development programs at faculty and whole school conferences. Since 2008 I have coached teachers in ELA, ELL, Social Studies, Foreign Language faculties. I have also mentored the Assistant Principal to use the Danielson’s Framework for teacher evaluation and pedagogical improvement.
From 2008 to 2015, I worked intensively with the Principal, Assistant Principals and ELA teachers and at Rachel Carson High School, NY to introduce and support a choice based curriculum. This had a transformative effect on teaching practice and student outcomes. In 2011-2013 I was as lead consultant in the Harlem Transformation School and Bedford Stuyvesant Learning Complex. My role was to design and implement an enriched literacy program to help language learners and disadvantaged students to develop career and life goals while improving their academic skills. My role was to coach and mentor Assistant Principals and teachers to improve literacy programs and delivery practices to maximize student achievement.
