Leslie Sussman
Leslie Sussman has had a long career in Education, working at the New York City Department of Education and at nonprofit educational organizations. She has served as a Director of Instruction and Professional Development, as a Local Instructional Superintendent, and as a Director of Grants and Compliance. She is a skilled grant writer, having secured grant funding for schools and organizations in excess of $15,000,000.
Leslie believes that for a school to be successful, effective and efficient systems and structures need to be in place so that principals and assistant principals are able to focus on the important work of improving student achievement. In order to be able to focus on instructional improvement in a school, school leaders often need assistance in managing and monitoring school operations and activities.
Leslie has a wealth of experience in providing principals with help in designing, launching and implementing instructional programs (e.g. extended day/week programs, parent engagement programs, attendance improvement programs), with creating school documents (e.g. school and parent handbooks, teacher training documents, promotional materials), and writing school plans (e.g. comprehensive education plans, Title III plans).
Leslie has designed professional development plans and activities across curriculum areas and grade levels. She is also adept at managing school budgets and purchases to maximize financial resources. In schools that have been awarded grant funds, Leslie provides assistance in implementing the grant activities and budgets, and in writing required grant reports. She also develops systems for data collection that provide required information for grant and school reports.
Leslie can be the experienced “extra pair of hands” that hard-working principals are always in search of.
