Liz Howort
Liz is an educator who loves beginnings—from the spark of a new idea to envisioning a new class, Liz thrives when collaboratively bringing forth a seed to fruition. Liz has taught writing and literature at the high school and college levels for over a decade, and she is committed to serving urban youth. As the Co-Founder of Frequency Writers (Providence), Liz became an innovator in the community writing world.
When she rolls up her sleeves, Liz loves doing vision and planning work with teachers, designing new curriculum, and problem solving as the wheels turn. Liz consults with teacher teams in high schools and in higher ed to support curriculum design, vertical integration, and alignment within departments.
As a writing consultant Liz focuses on process-based writing, the writer's notebook, writing workshop, and peer review. As a poet and writer herself, Liz is committed to integrating creativity into the classroom to support student engagement. Publications include Mend and Hone (2013), and poetry and creative non-fiction published in The Seneca Review, Storyscape Journal, The Best American Poetry blog, and elsewhere.
